Flange Towbars

The flange towbar has long been a go-to option for many vehicle owners in this country, thanks to its versatile and adaptable design. At the core of the flange towbar is a sturdy faceplate, to which the all-important tow ball is securely bolted in place. This setup has made the flange towbar a reliable and widely-used choice for towing trailers, caravans, and other heavy loads.

However, the increasing prevalence of parking sensors as a standard feature on newer vehicles has started to impact the popularity of the flange towbar. The protruding tow ball can sometimes be detected by these sensitive parking sensors, triggering warnings or even automatic braking - an unwanted complication when trying to maneuver in tight spaces.

Despite this potential drawback, the flange towbar remains an appealing option for many due to its broad compatibility. The faceplate design allows for easy interchangeability of tow balls, enabling the use of specialized couplings like the AL-KO style.

This flexibility also extends to a wide range of additional accessories that can be mounted, from practical tow steps to stabilizers and even bike racks.

So while the flange towbar may be losing a bit of ground to more discreet towing solutions, its combination of versatility, strength, and established popularity ensures it will likely remain a common sight on the roads for years to come.
